Commissioned Lay Pastors Committee
What is a Commissioned Lay Pastor?
A commissioned lay pastor (CLP) works in a focus area for a particular congregation for a specified time. The CLP can also serve on the PTCA Pulpit Supply list as a person who can fill a pulpit when a pastor is away.
The Presbytery's Commissioned Lay Pastors Committee works with the Committee on Ministry and the Church Development Team to determine if CLP leadership is appropriate for a congregation's ministry needs. Commissioned Lay Pastors help empower congregational renewal and can provide leadership for growing racial ethnic groups.
The General Assembly rewrote the guidelines for Certified Lay
Preachers to create the CLPs position, which includes more than
preaching: such as performing the sacraments, marriages, and moderating
the session. The PC (U.S.A.) has online resources about CLPs and Why and When to use a CLP.
