Peace and Justice Task Force
"And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace." - James 3:18
Peace and Justice is God's intention for the world. Through Jesus Christ we are reconciled to God and called to deal justly with each other and with all creation.
The Peace and Justice Task Force has been established by the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area to provide leadership development, resources and other support to congregations according to their purpose.
Duties and Responsibilites
- Encourage members of the Presbytery to be advocates for social justice and peacemaking;
- Manage the missional uses of the Presbytery's portion of the Peacemaking offering;
- Rasie awareness within the Presbytery of issues and concerns regarding peace and justice through communication, conferences, workshops, etc.

Peace Vigil at St. Luke Presbyterian Church 7:00 PM, Friday, March 7Friday, March 7, at 7:00 PM, St. Luke Presbyterian in Wayzata will host a peace vigil to coincide with the Peace Witness in Washington, D.C. This is an opportunity for those in our local community to join in solidarity with those who are marching and holding vigil in our nation’s capital. Together we will pray that peace might come in Iraq and throughout the world. The guest preacher for this event is Sharon M. Tan. Sharon Tan is associate professor of Christian Ethics at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Her interests lie in reconciliation, justice, and politics and religion. She is a lay member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in her prior life, was an attorney. She was born and raised in Malaysia. She is married, with two daughters. All are welcome to participate in this vigil for peace!

Peace and Justice Petition Available
The Peace and Justice Task Force has put forth a petition cal;ling for the US Government to engage in foreign policies based "peacemaking and the pursuit of justice and fairness of shalom." To get involved in collection signatures, please download the petition. When finished, please send all completed forms via email to: peaceandjustice@ptcaweb.org. You can also send it by mail to the Presbytery office in care of the Peace and Justice Task Force.
Peacemaking Grant Applications
The Peacemaking Fund originates from the Presbytery's share of the proceeds from the annual Peacmaking Offering, which is collected on World Communion Sunday, the first Sunday in October. Peacemaking Funds are available for use by individuals , congregatios, work groups, task forces and committees to address conflict in the secular and religious community. Applications are due in by the 15th of the month before each monthly meeting of the Peace and Justice Task Force.
Application Criteria
Grant applicants may apply for peacemaking money in either of two areas: Education or Reconciliation.
Education: Conduct programs on conflict and peacemaking issues. For example, congregations may provide education workshops on family / marriage issues, racial / ethnic issues, or violence issues.
Reconciliation: Direct efforts to resolve conflict between individuals or groups in families, congregations, or in neighborhoods. For example, anger management classes, interfaith dialogue, or sensitivity training.
Application Process
- The project must be endorsed by a session or a Presbytery entity.
- Reapplication is required each year.
- Application forms are available online at this page or online at . They may be filled out and submitted online or downloaded and submitted by mail or email.
