June is Pride Month across the country, a time to celebrate and support our LGBTQ+ friends, family and neighbors. This year, we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Episcopal Church affirming that LGBTQ+ people have a full and equal claim to the love, acceptance, and pastoral care of the Church. The journey to make that promise a reality continues today.

Pride Month is, in many ways, a celebration, rooted in the joy of community and belonging. But it's also a time of remembrance and reflection about the generations of struggle, oppression and violence experienced by LGBTQ+ people. Too often, these aggressions have found (and continue to find) their root in appropriated notions that don't square with Jesus's radical, sacrificial, and limitless commitment to the wellbeing of others.
As followers of Jesus, we're called not just during Pride Month but at all times to bring God's healing love to the world through prayer, and acts of love and service. This month will feature Pride events in Episcopal parishes and communities across Minnesota, and there are many opportunities for us all to take an active role. As we gather, worship and celebrate, let's remember our call to bring to the world the radical love and inclusivity Jesus taught. In all the ways we will show up in and for our communities, Pride Month gives us clearly demonstrable ways to practice the love that Jesus modeled, and a template we can apply to a year-round demonstration of our faith, and our Christian commitments to one another.
